Delhi Water Crisis: DJB Announces 12-Hour Water Supply Cut; Check List Of Areas To Be Affected

In a recent announcement by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), residents in several parts of the city are advised to brace for a water supply disruption lasting approximately 12 hours. This interruption, starting from 11 am on September 20, 2024, is due to essential repair works at the Chandrawal Water Works. These works are necessary to address a leakage in the 500mm diameter Rising Main within the premises of the Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial in Civil Lines. The DJB has issued an advisory noting the affected areas and has expressed apologies for the inconvenience this may cause to the residents.

The repair is crucial for maintaining the integrity of Delhi's water supply infrastructure and ensuring continuous service in the future. The DJB has pinpointed several areas that will experience water supply issues, including Civil Lines, Hindu Rao Hospital, and its surrounding locales, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, and nearby regions. Additionally, the water disruption will affect Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj, and NDMC areas, along with Old & New Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar (East & West), Baljeet Nagar, Prem Nagar, Inderpuri, and adjacent areas. Parts of the Cantonment area and South Delhi will also face water supply challenges during this period.

The areas listed are extensive, covering significant parts of the city, highlighting the expansive impact of the repair works on Delhi's water supply. The DJB's advisory has been disseminated across various platforms, including social media, to ensure residents are adequately informed. The advisory states, "Inconvenience Caused Is Deeply Regretted," underscoring the board's acknowledgment of the disruption's impact on daily life. The DJB's announcement on X on Wednesday detailed the cause of the disruption,"!! WATER ALERT!! Due to the repair of the leakage in the 500mm dia Rising Main emanating from Chandrawal Water Works inside premises of Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial, Civil Lines," reflecting the urgency and significance of the repair work.

This isn't the first time Delhi has faced water supply issues due to repairs. Earlier in the month, water supply to several areas in north and central Delhi was disrupted. The DJB was addressing a major leak in its supply line near Kamla Market, affecting water supply from Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants. Initially expected to last 12 hours, the repair work was prolonged due to unforeseen engineering complications, leading to extended periods without water supply for many residents.

This series of disruptions underscores the challenges faced in maintaining the vast and aging infrastructure that supports one of India's largest metropolitan areas. The DJB's efforts to promptly address these issues are critical in minimizing inconvenience to the residents and ensuring the reliability of water supply across the city. As Delhi continues to grow, the importance of investing in and maintaining its water supply infrastructure becomes increasingly apparent, highlighting the need for ongoing attention and resources to support the city's needs.
