Delhi Traffic Police Issues 7230 Challans On Holi 2025; Double To Last Year

The Delhi traffic police caught more than double violators this Holi. According to the reports, traffic police officers issued 7,230 challans, compared to 3589 traffic violations on Holi 2024.

The spike in traffic-related offenses includes a range of infractions, from drunken driving to helmet-related violations. The Delhi Traffic Police's concerted efforts to manage the surge involved deploying special teams across the city to maintain safety and order.

In a detailed breakdown of the violations, the number of people caught for drunken driving rose dramatically to 1,213 in 2025, up from 824 in 2024. Additionally, there was a 56 per cent increase in helmet-related violations, with 2,376 instances compared to 1,524 the year before. Other traffic offenses, such as triple-riding, using tinted glass, and driving without seat belts, also saw an uptick. Specifically, authorities issued 573 challans for triple-riding and 97 for tinted glass violations.

Efforts to Enhance Road Safety During Holi

To combat the rise in traffic violations during the Holi festivities, the Delhi Traffic Police took several proactive measures. According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta, extensive arrangements were in place to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists. The police focused on curbing instances of drunken driving, triple-riding, underage driving, and stunt performances on two-wheelers, recognizing these activities as major risks during the celebrations.

Supporting these efforts, 84 special teams armed with alcometers for detecting drunken driving were deployed across the city. Additionally, 40 joint checking teams, consisting of traffic police and local police personnel, were stationed at major intersections, popular drinking spots, and other vulnerable locations. These teams operated from 8 am to midnight, working diligently to identify and prosecute traffic violators during the festival.

The significant increase in traffic violations during Holi in 2025, particularly in cases of drunken driving and helmet-related offenses, underscores the challenges faced by the Delhi Traffic Police. The data indicates a 139 per cent rise in the booking of violators for other traffic offenses, jumping from 1,241 cases last year to 2,971. Such statistics highlight the ongoing need for robust traffic management and enforcement measures during major festivals to ensure public safety.
