Delhi Teen Stabbed To Death After Refusing To Give 'Treat' For New Mobile Phone

In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old boy named Sachin was allegedly stabbed to death by three of his classmates in East Delhi's Shakarpur after he refused to give them a treat for purchasing a new smartphone.

The murder took place on Monday evening, and the accused, all aged 16, have been apprehended by the police.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta, the victim and the accused, all students of Class 9, were known to each other and lived in the same locality. The police became aware of the crime when a patrolling unit noticed blood stains near a popular samosa shop in Shakarpur around 7:15 PM on Monday. Upon investigating, they discovered that Sachin had been stabbed and immediately rushed him to LNJP Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries due to two stab wounds on his back, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The incident unfolded when Sachin and one of his friends were returning home after purchasing a new mobile phone. They encountered the three boys, who demanded a treat to celebrate the new phone. When Sachin refused, a heated argument ensued, resulting in the fatal stabbing.

"The group demanded a party or treat to celebrate the purchase, but Sachin refused. An argument broke out, leading to the stabbing," DCP Gupta stated.

The police quickly identified and apprehended the three accused using CCTV footage from the area. The murder weapon has also been recovered. A case has been registered at Shakarpur police station under sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the BNS.

This incident echoes a similarly tragic event from August in Maharashtra's Thane, where three individuals were arrested for kidnapping and murdering a 13-year-old boy after stealing his mobile phone. In that case, the suspects lured the victim to a deserted area, stole his phone, and then strangled him, as per media report.

The senseless killing in Shakarpur highlights growing concerns about the alarming trend of violent crimes among minors, often sparked by trivial disagreements. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and the three accused are expected to face juvenile justice proceedings.
