Delhi Shivers At 7°C Morning: Rain Likely, Poor Air Quality Lingers
Delhi woke up to a chilly Sunday morning on December 8, with the minimum temperature dropping to 7.1°C-the lowest recorded this season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain later in the day, adding to the wintery conditions gripping the national capital.

Key Weather Updates
Coldest Morning of the Season
For the second consecutive day, Delhi recorded a seasonal-low minimum temperature, which was three notches below the normal for this time of the year.
The city clocked its coldest night of the season on December 6, when temperatures fell to 8.5°C.
Rainfall Forecast
IMD forecasts light rainfall or drizzle in Delhi later today, influenced by a western disturbance.
Surrounding regions, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, may also experience light rainfall between December 9 and 11.
Misty conditions are expected tonight, adding to the wintry atmosphere.
Temperature Outlook
The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 24°C today and dip slightly to 23°C by December 9.
The minimum temperature is forecast to stay at 8°C before seeing a further decline in the coming days.
Air Quality Deteriorates Further
Current Status
Delhi's air quality continues to hover in the 'poor' category, with an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 219 recorded on December 7 at 8 am, as per the Central Pollution Control Board.
By Saturday evening, the city's 24-hour average AQI rose to 233, a significant deterioration from Friday's 'moderate' reading of 197.
Impact of Pollution
A thin layer of smog enveloped key landmarks such as India Gate, Barapullah, and Lodhi Road.
Residents continue to face breathing difficulties and other health issues due to persistently poor air quality.
DSS Monitoring Issues
The Decision Support System (DSS), used to assess and estimate pollution sources in Delhi, has not been updated since November 29.
An official from the Commission for Air Quality Management stated that the DSS is still under development and not fully operational.
Challenges Ahead
Delhi's weather conditions and declining air quality pose significant challenges for residents, particularly with the onset of colder temperatures and persistent smog. While light rainfall may offer temporary relief, the city's air quality remains a pressing concern that requires urgent attention.
