Delhi Schools Face Fresh Bomb Threat for Second Consecutive Day

Several schools in Delhi, including Delhi Public School in RK Puram, received bomb threats via email on Saturday, ANI reported, citing police sources.

Police and other emergency teams are currently present at the affected schools, but it remains unconfirmed whether the threats are genuine or hoaxes.

This marks the second wave of threats in two days. On Friday morning, around 30 schools across the capital received similar email bomb threats, causing widespread panic among parents, many of whom rushed to collect their children during peak hours.

After comprehensive searches conducted by the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services (DFS), and bomb squads, no suspicious objects were discovered.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, over 44 schools had received comparable threats. Of the 30 schools targeted on Friday, 22 had also been threatened in Monday's incidents.

The threatening emails, sent from the address '[email protected]', contained no specific demands except for one received on Monday, which demanded $30,000.

The recent surge in such incidents has sparked concerns among parents. Vikas Sharma, whose daughter studies at Delhi Public School in Safdarjung Enclave, noted that many parents now habitually check their phones for updates on bomb threats.

Asha Prabhakar, chairperson of the National Progressive Schools Conference and principal of Bal Bharati Public School in Noida, urged authorities to trace the source of these emails, highlighting the mental and physical stress these situations are causing for students, parents, and staff.

In response to previous incidents, the Delhi High Court had directed the Aam Aadmi Party-led government and the Delhi police to devise a detailed action plan, including a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to address bomb threats and similar emergencies.

The court, in its November ruling, had set an eight-week deadline for the implementation of these measures, emphasising the need to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders, including school administrations, municipal authorities, and law enforcement agencies.
