Delhi Rains: Tree Uproots In Kalka Ji After Heavy Rain, One Dead, Several Vehicles Damaged

A tragic incident occurred in Delhi when a 50-year-old man named Sudhir Kumar was killed after a large tree fell on him during heavy rain. Sudhir was riding his bike with his daughter Priya, aged 22, when an old neem tree toppled over in Kalkaji, South Delhi. The downpour has been relentless since early morning, causing waterlogging and traffic chaos across the city.

Visuals from the scene reveal the fallen tree blocking the entire road. A JCB machine has been deployed to cut and remove the tree to clear the path. The Fire Department is also actively working to restore normal traffic flow. Meanwhile, an i10 car parked nearby suffered damage due to the fallen tree.

Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi as heavy showers continued throughout the day. Many areas reported waterlogging and slow-moving traffic, causing significant inconvenience during rush hour. Notable affected locations include Lajpat Nagar, Rohtak Road, Anand Parbat, and several others.

Delhi Traffic Police released multiple alerts warning of congestion at various points like Moolchand Underpass and AIIMS Flyover. Commuters were advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays. Additionally, Delhi Airport issued an advisory urging passengers to consider using the Metro due to waterlogged roads near the airport.

Rescue Efforts and Traffic Advisory

At approximately 9:50 am, CCTV footage captured the moment when the neem tree fell on vehicles in Kalkaji. While one car managed to escape after a brief pause, Sudhir's bike remained trapped under the tree. Bystanders quickly rushed to assist the bikers trapped beneath it.

The police responded promptly to a PCR call and initiated a rescue operation. Both victims were transported by Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulance to AIIMS Trauma Centre. Unfortunately, Sudhir succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.

In response to these events, authorities have taken measures to manage traffic disruptions caused by flooding in various parts of Delhi. They have advised commuters about potential jams at key locations like South Extension Loop and suggested alternate routes for smoother travel.

The continuous rain has significantly impacted daily life in Delhi by causing widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across major roads such as Old GT Road near Ring Road or Dhaula Kuan-Gurugram road among others.
