Delhi Pollution: LG Vinai Kumar Saxena Slams AAP Govt Over Yamuna Toxic Froth

As Delhi grapples with severe air pollution during the festive season, political tensions rise between AAP and BJP. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena criticises the government while both parties exchange accusations regarding pollution management and accountability.

Delhi is currently facing severe air pollution, coinciding with the festive season. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena shared images of toxic froth in the Yamuna River on X, criticising the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Atishi. He urged for immediate action to alleviate the situation for Delhi residents and Chhath worshippers.

The lieutenant governor's post on X included a pointed remark: "These pictures of Yamuna ji are from this morning. Who is responsible? Truth has a very bad habit, it cannot be suppressed. Instead of making accusations, allegations and excuses on media/social media, it would be better to provide relief to the people of Delhi and especially Chhath worshippers and fasting people from this worsening situation," he said.

Political Tensions Over Pollution

The AAP responded by claiming that the images shared were from 2015, accusing the BJP of using outdated photos to mislead the public. This exchange highlights ongoing political tensions between AAP and BJP regarding environmental issues in Delhi.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Atishi attributed Delhi's poor air quality to 'parali' burning, diesel buses, and brick kilns in Haryana. She pointed out that Anand Vihar, near the Delhi-UP border, experiences high AQI levels due to incoming buses from outside Delhi.

Accusations and Counterclaims

Atishi mentioned plans to collaborate with Uttar Pradesh authorities to address pollution at Kaushambi bus depot, which receives diesel buses. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini dismissed Atishi's claims as baseless.

Saini stated that AAP frequently blames others for its shortcomings. He noted that Haryana supplies water with low biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) levels to Delhi. Saini questioned who was accountable for the 28 drains polluting Yamuna from within Delhi.

The political blame game continues as both parties exchange accusations over pollution management in the capital region. The debate underscores broader challenges in addressing environmental concerns collaboratively across state lines.

This ongoing conflict reflects deeper issues in regional cooperation needed to tackle pollution effectively. As residents endure worsening conditions, calls for concrete solutions grow louder amid political disputes.
