Delhi Polls 2025: BJP's Parvesh Verma Reiterates Allegations, Accuses AAP Of Distributing Money, Alcohol
Former MP and BJP candidate from New Delhi Constituency, Parvesh Verma has raised serious allegations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He claims that the AAP, particularly its Punjab unit, has been engaging in activities aimed at swaying the electorate by distributing alcohol and cash. Verma asserts that a significant influx of vehicles from Punjab has been observed, ferrying individuals who are purportedly involved in these activities. He accuses the AAP of employing underhanded tactics to influence voter behavior, including the installation of CCTV cameras from dubious Chinese companies.
In a detailed statement to ANI, Verma elaborated on his accusations, stating that the influx of vehicles and individuals from Punjab to Delhi is not just for electoral assistance but includes distributing alcohol and money to sway the voters. He criticized the AAP government for what he perceives as their failure to deliver on governance and development in Delhi over the past 11 years. Verma questioned the AAP's achievements, inquiring about the educational institutions, hospitals, and infrastructure developments they have managed to accomplish during their tenure.

Responding to the allegations, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, representing AAP, strongly refuted Verma's claims. Kejriwal highlighted his respect for Punjabis, emphasizing the significant contributions and sacrifices made by the Punjabi community for the country. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disappointment over the claims, stating that such statements insult the sacrifices of the Punjabi people. Kejriwal demanded an apology from the BJP, noting the deep-rooted presence and influence of Punjabis in Delhi and condemning any attempts to portray them as a threat.
Verma's accusations did not stop at verbal statements. He took formal action by lodging complaints with both the Election Commission and the Delhi Police against the alleged misconduct by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his cabinet colleagues, and other AAP members. He accused them of engaging in a systematic campaign to distribute cash and alcohol to voters in the New Delhi assembly constituency, aiming to influence the outcome of the upcoming Delhi Assembly election in their favor.
The confrontation between Verma and the AAP escalated further with Verma filing a defamation lawsuit against Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann for a staggering sum of Rs.100 crore. Verma justified this legal action by stating his intent to use any potential compensation for the benefit of the people in the New Delhi assembly constituency, asserting that the AAP's leaders were resorting to false allegations against him due to their anticipated loss in the election.
This electoral dispute unfolds against the backdrop of the impending Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5, with the vote count set for February 8.
