Delhi-NCR Commuters Alert: From Ashram Chowk To DND Flyway, Several Routes Shut For Four Days; Check Diversion

Commuters travelling through South and Central Delhi are likely to face heavy traffic over the next few days as the Delhi Traffic Police has announced major road closures and diversions near Ashram Chowk. The restrictions have been put in place to allow emergency repair work on a damaged Delhi Jal Board (DJB) water pipeline.

The affected stretch of Ring Road, between Maharani Bagh and Ashram Chowk, has been closed from 10 pm on June 15 and is expected to remain shut for around four days. Authorities have advised people to plan their journeys in advance and use alternate routes to avoid long delays.

Why Has the Road Been Closed?

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the closure is necessary to facilitate urgent repairs to a 1,200-mm-diameter Delhi Jal Board pipeline that was damaged near Ashram Chowk. The pipeline is an important part of the city's water supply network, and officials say the repair work cannot be delayed.

Since the repair site is located on one of Delhi's busiest road corridors, traffic movement on the Ring Road carriageway between Maharani Bagh and Ashram has been restricted to ensure the safety of workers and motorists.

Check the Alternate Routes

To reduce traffic pressure around Ashram Chowk, Delhi Traffic Police has announced a series of diversions and suggested alternate routes.

For commuters travelling towards Faridabad

Motorists coming from Sarai Kale Khan, ITO, DND Noida and Mayur Vihar and heading towards Faridabad are advised to:

• Take the Ashram Flyover.
• Turn left onto Captain Gaur Marg.
• Continue via Okhla Mandi Road.
• Cross the Modi Mill Flyover.
• Rejoin the route through Mathura Road.

For traffic coming from DND Flyway

Vehicles approaching Ashram from the DND Flyway should avoid the closed stretch and instead use:

• Barapullah Elevated Corridor, or
• Ashram Flyover.

For commuters from CV Raman Marg

Traffic moving from CV Raman Marg towards Ring Road has been diverted through:

• Mata Mandir Marg, and
• Mathura Road.

Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory

The Delhi Traffic Police has urged people to avoid the Ashram Chowk area unless absolutely necessary during the repair period. Commuters have been encouraged to use public transport services, including the Delhi Metro, wherever possible.

Officials have also advised motorists to check live traffic updates and navigation applications before starting their journey, as congestion levels may change depending on the progress of the repair work.

Those travelling to airports, railway stations or other time-sensitive destinations have been advised to leave early and keep extra travel time in hand.

Expect Delays on DND Flyway and Nearby Roads

With one of Delhi's key road links partially closed, authorities expect traffic to build up not only around Ashram Chowk but also on connecting roads and flyovers. The DND Flyway, Mathura Road and nearby junctions could witness longer-than-usual queues, especially during morning and evening rush hours.

Traffic personnel will be deployed on the ground to regulate vehicle movement and guide commuters along the designated diversion routes.

Follow Official Instructions During the Repair Work

The Delhi Traffic Police has requested the public to cooperate with officials and strictly follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed in the affected areas. Drivers have also been asked not to ignore barricades or attempt to enter the restricted stretch, as this could worsen congestion and delay the repair process.

The emergency repair work is expected to continue for approximately four days, after which normal traffic movement on the Ring Road section is likely to resume.
