Rekha Gupta Confirms Renaming of Three Delhi Metro Stations — Check New Names Here

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently revealed plans to rename three metro stations in the Pitampura area. This change aims to highlight the cultural and local essence of the region. The announcement was made during the Shresth Bharat Sampark Yatra in Haiderpur village, New Delhi. This event honoured the martyrs of the 1962 Rezang La battle, where 114 soldiers from the 13 Kumaon Regiment bravely defended India.

Gupta shared updates on infrastructure improvements in the area. She mentioned that work on widening Max Hospital Road and constructing an underpass is progressing swiftly. These enhancements are expected to offer residents safer and more efficient travel options throughout the region.

New Station Names Reflect Local Identity

In a message on X, Gupta highlighted Haiderpur village's development as a blend of tradition and modernity. She stated, "Haiderpur village is emerging as a symbol of a developing Delhi, where tradition is honoured and modern amenities are accorded the highest priority."

The proposed Uttari Pitampura Station will be renamed Uttari Pitampura-Prashant Vihar Metro Station for better regional representation. Additionally, Pitampura North Metro Station will become Haiderpur Village Metro Station, while Pitampura Metro Station will be known as Madhuban Chowk Metro Station.

Delhi Metro Expansion

The Delhi Metro is currently undergoing significant expansion through its Phase IV project. This includes adding 112 km of new lines and 44 stations. Officials anticipate that by 2027, this expansion will extend the network by approximately 450 km across Delhi-NCR. Some sections aim for completion by early 2026. By December 2025, Delhi Metro is expected to surpass New York as the world's longest single-city metro system.

This renaming initiative aligns with efforts to enhance commuter clarity and strengthen regional identity. It reflects a broader commitment to integrating cultural heritage with urban development in Delhi.
