Delhi Man Dies After Self-Immolation Near Parliament Over Legal Troubles
Delhi Man Dies: A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday near the Parliament building in New Delhi when a man set himself on fire. The victim, identified as Jitendra, succumbed to his injuries on Friday, as confirmed by the police.
Jitendra, aged 30-35, hailed from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh and had been battling multiple legal cases filed against him in recent years. Authorities revealed that he suffered 90% burn injuries and was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in a critical condition before passing away, as reported by PTI.

Incident Details
The self-immolation occurred around 3:30 PM on Wednesday near the Rail Bhawan. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Mahla, Jitendra used a petrol-like substance to set himself ablaze in a park in front of the Parliament. He then moved toward the main gate before security personnel intervened and extinguished the flames with assistance from bystanders.
Troubling Background
Preliminary investigations suggest that Jitendra's act was linked to legal troubles stemming from cases filed against him in 2021, 2022, and 2024 in Baghpat. Police disclosed that these cases were based on complaints from a group of people, but the exact nature of the disputes remains unclear, as per PTI reports.
Jitendra had reportedly misled his parents, claiming he was traveling to Delhi to seek legal assistance from the Supreme Court. His family, who arrived in Delhi on Thursday, alleged that the cases against him were fabricated, leading to immense stress.
A Life Cut Short
Jitendra was a college dropout who aspired to become a lawyer, according to his father. His family believes the mounting pressure of false accusations drove him to this extreme step.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities have found no suicide note, but further inquiries are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Forensic teams are analyzing evidence, while Uttar Pradesh police are expected to shed light on the unresolved disputes linked to the deceased's cases, as per PTI reports.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the emotional toll legal and societal pressures can exert on individuals.
