Delhi Govt One-Year Report: CM Rekha Gupta Highlights Welfare, Health, EV Push And 2047 Vision

A year into governance, the Delhi administration reports progress across welfare schemes, health infrastructure, and urban development, emphasising measurable outcomes and service delivery. The plan includes Ayushman coverage, infrastructure upgrades, water and drainage improvements, and population-focused welfare initiatives to support poorer communities.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta marked one year of the BJP government by releasing a detailed performance report, stressing delivery over promises. At a press briefing in the Delhi Secretariat, Rekha Gupta said the administration had focused on measurable outcomes, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of 'Developed India' and an agenda of efficient, sensitive governance for the national capital.

Rekha Gupta described the government’s working style as centred on the pledge “Less paperwork, more work”. According to Rekha Gupta, this approach shaped decisions across welfare, infrastructure, health and environment. The Chief Minister claimed that every major department was pushed towards concrete change after the new administration took charge, with poor households and basic services placed at the core of planning.

The Chief Minister highlighted welfare measures as an early priority. In the very first cabinet meeting, the government approved the Ayushman scheme in Delhi. Rekha Gupta stated that about seven lakh residents had used this cover so far. To offer low-cost meals, 70 Atal Canteens are operating, serving nearly 70,000 people each day, targeting workers and low-income groups across the city.

Efforts to support informal settlements were also underlined. Rekha Gupta said a budget of Rs 700 crore had been set aside for the development of jhuggi clusters. In the first phase, the process has begun to allot already-built flats to 13,000 poor families. For children of labourers, 500 childcare centres have been opened, aiming to provide safer day-time support.

Health infrastructure formed another major section of the report card. Rekha Gupta said 370 Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities had been opened within one year. The target for 2024 is to increase this network to 1,100 centres. New blocks have started functioning in five hospitals, while equipment installations are underway to upgrade diagnostic and treatment capacity.

The Chief Minister claimed that corruption linked to earlier hospital systems had been addressed, allowing smoother procurement and staffing. Rekha Gupta reported that 53 ambulances were added to the fleet to improve emergency response. Work is continuing to reduce shortages of doctors and nurses across government hospitals, with recruitment and deployment described as a current focus area.

On physical infrastructure, Rekha Gupta said 150 kilometres of roads had already been built. Another 400 kilometres are planned to be completed before the monsoon season. The Nand Nagri flyover has started operations. Barapullah Phase-3 is targeted for June, while the Mukarba underpass is expected to open by March, with more flyover work planned at Modi Mill and Savitri Cinema.

For water and sewerage, the government has cleared projects for 833 kilometres of new water pipelines to improve supply in several localities. Old sewer lines are being replaced, and work is in progress to upgrade water treatment plants. A bill relief scheme for water users has benefitted 3,52,000 consumers so far, according to figures shared by Rekha Gupta.

Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Drainage Master Plan had been implemented to tackle waterlogging and improve storm-water management. The plan includes construction of 40 foot-over bridges to improve pedestrian safety. Public transport and pollution control were presented together as linked goals. Rekha Gupta said the trust placed in the Bharatiya Janata Party by Delhi’s citizens would be treated as an obligation to show results. The Chief Minister reiterated the long-term goal linked to “Developed Delhi 2047” and promised that the administration would keep moving on the path of service with dedication and humility, using performance-based assessment as the guiding measure.
