Delhi Fire Service Cancels Leaves To Ensure Emergency Preparedness During Diwali Celebrations

In preparation for Diwali, the Delhi Fire Service has cancelled staff leaves to ensure readiness. Enhanced safety measures and quick response teams are deployed to manage emergencies effectively.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) has cancelled all leaves for its officers and staff to ensure they are fully prepared for any emergencies during Diwali. This decision aims to maintain round-the-clock readiness, according to officials. A senior DFS officer mentioned that detailed plans are in place to manage fire-related incidents during the festive season.

Last Diwali, the DFS control room received over 200 emergency calls related to fires. Many of these were due to firecrackers, short circuits, and mishandling of diyas and candles. To prevent such incidents this year, the DFS has conducted several mock drills across residential and market areas in Delhi.

Fire Safety Measures and Quick Response Teams

All fire stations and quick response teams (QRTs) have been put on high alert. Every team has been instructed to respond promptly to distress calls. In addition, numerous QRTs will be stationed at over 100 locations throughout Delhi to ensure swift action when needed.

To further enhance safety measures, additional staff have been deployed in areas prone to fire incidents like Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Bhagirath Palace, and industrial zones. Fire tenders, water tankers, and hydraulic platforms have been strategically positioned to reduce response time in case of major incidents.

Ensuring Equipment Readiness

"Every vehicle has been checked thoroughly and is in working condition," stated another officer. The DFS aims to ensure no emergency call goes unattended during this period. Their teams have been trained for swift and effective action in any situation that may arise.

The DFS emphasises the importance of their role during Diwali as it is one of their busiest times. "We play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of citizens during this festival," an officer added. The department's efforts are focused on maintaining public safety throughout the celebrations.

In a message directed at the public, the DFS urged everyone to celebrate Diwali safely and responsibly. By adhering to safety guidelines, citizens can contribute significantly towards preventing accidents during the festivities.
