Delhi Election: BJP’s ‘Sheeshmahal’ Jibe Targets AAP As Run-Up To Polls Heat Up

As Delhi prepares for its assembly elections on February 5, 2025, the political battlefield has intensified with the BJP launching a sharp attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Calling him the "AAP-Da-e-Azam of Sheeshmahal", the BJP has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of corruption and extravagance, signaling a no-holds-barred campaign for the capital.

BJP's Latest Salvo

The Delhi unit of the BJP has taken to social media to target Kejriwal, emphasising alleged misgovernance and corruption under his leadership. In a tweet, the BJP declared,

"The people of Delhi have decided, AAP-Da-e-Azam of the Sheeshmahal has to be chased away."

The term "Sheeshmahal" refers to the controversial renovation of the Delhi Chief Minister's residence, which the BJP has highlighted as a symbol of opulence and a betrayal of AAP's claims of austerity.

Focus on Corruption Allegations

BJP leaders are doubling down on Kejriwal's alleged involvement in the Delhi Excise Policy case, claiming it reflects a deeper rot within AAP.

"The people of Delhi are tired of false promises and scandals. It's time for change," said a senior BJP leader.

Candidates and Key Battles

The BJP has strategically fielded prominent candidates to challenge AAP in high-stakes constituencies.

New Delhi Seat: Former MP Parvesh Verma, son of ex-Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, will take on Kejriwal.

Kalkaji Seat: BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri will face Delhi CM Atishi, with Congress's Alka Lamba also in the fray.

Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi politics, is seeking a comeback with figures like Sandeep Dixit, son of former CM Sheila Dixit, contesting against Kejriwal.

Three-Way Contest

The elections are shaping up to be a triangular contest between the ruling AAP, BJP and a resurgent Congress.

While AAP touts its achievements in education and healthcare, the BJP is banking on its "double-engine government" promise, aiming to align Delhi's governance with the central administration.

Key Dates

Nominations Deadline: January 17
Voting: February 5
Results: February 8

As the campaign gains momentum, the battle for Delhi promises to be as fierce as ever, with the BJP's relentless attacks setting the tone for an intense electoral showdown.
