Delhi Crime: Teen Killed in Hit-and-Run by DTC Bus in Azadpur, Driver on the Run

A fatal hit-and-run in northwest Delhi has once again raised concerns over road safety and accountability, after a 19-year-old youth was killed by a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus in the Azadpur area on Sunday evening.

The victim, identified as Akash from Sahipur village in Shalimar Bagh, was found critically injured on the road when police responded to a PCR call around 5:30 pm. He was declared dead shortly after.

Driver Abandons Bus, Escapes Scene

In a disturbing turn, the bus driver fled immediately after the crash, leaving the vehicle behind. The incident sparked chaos on the busy stretch, with bystanders gathering at the scene as police began their probe.

Officials confirmed that a forensic team inspected the spot, and the body was shifted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Busy Road, Rising Safety Concerns

The accident occurred on one of Azadpur's high-traffic corridors, where evening congestion is common. Investigators are examining whether the victim was crossing the road at the time or if rash driving played a larger role.

Manhunt Underway, CCTV Footage Key Evidence

Police have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding driver. Multiple teams are scanning CCTV footage from nearby roads, traffic signals, and shops to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the route taken by the bus after the crash.

Eyewitness accounts are also being recorded to strengthen the case.
