Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Election Official Requests Extra Security Amid Voter List Controversy
As the Delhi assembly elections approach, tensions are rising amid accusations and political pressures over the electoral process. A district election official (DEO) in Delhi has raised serious concerns about political interference and the need for enhanced security to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly. This request comes in light of an ongoing controversy surrounding the voter list and allegations of irregularities, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Political Pressure and Voter List Dispute

The DEO has alleged that political parties, particularly the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have been exerting pressure over the voter list. The AAP accused the BJP of attempting to remove Purvanchali voters from Delhi's electoral rolls. In retaliation, the BJP has claimed that the ruling AAP is settling illegal Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshis to create a "vote bank."
This political tug-of-war has led to heightened tensions, with both parties accusing each other of manipulating the voter list for electoral advantage. The DEO's letter to the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Delhi outlines attempts by senior AAP leaders to pressure him by requesting personal details of objectors to certain names on the electoral rolls, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Allegations of Intimidation and Ruckus
In addition to concerns about political interference, the DEO's office has witnessed a series of incidents involving intimidation and ruckus. The Additional District Magistrate (ADM), in a separate letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), highlighted these disturbances and requested police intervention to maintain order at the DEO's office. The ADM expressed concerns that the atmosphere of tension could disrupt the smooth functioning of election duties.
Several recent incidents, including unwanted visits by political leaders and attempts to pressure election officials, have created a sense of unease. The ADM has warned that such pressures could threaten the peaceful conduct of the elections, as per media reports.
Requests for Transparency and Preparedness
In his letter, the DEO also mentioned how he and other officials have been summoned to meetings with Delhi Chief Minister Atishi without prior notice or an agenda. These unannounced meetings, according to the DEO, have led to disruptions in their routine work and raised questions about the necessity and transparency of such interactions.
The District Magistrate (DM) echoed these concerns, requesting that future meetings with the CM include clear agendas to avoid any further disruptions in the officials' preparations for the election.
