Delhi 2025 Assembly Polls: 5 Key Factors That Could Seal AAP’s Hat-Trick
As the countdown to the Delhi Election 2025 begins, the political landscape is buzzing with anticipation. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, is aiming to secure its position for a third consecutive term. Having successfully ended the Congress's 15-year rule in its initial electoral attempt in 2013 and emerging victorious in the subsequent 2015 and 2020 elections, AAP has established itself as a formidable force in Delhi's political arena. This time, it faces a three-cornered battle against its traditional rivals, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Arvind Kejriwal continues to be the focal point of AAP's campaign, despite stepping down as Chief Minister in the preceding year. Known for his confrontational approach towards the Central Government and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Kejriwal has become synonymous with resistance. Under his leadership, AAP achieved overwhelming victories in past elections, securing 67 and 62 seats in 2015 and 2020, respectively. These triumphs highlight the party's strong presence and the efficacy of its volunteer-based campaign strategies.

The "Delhi Model" of governance, introduced by AAP, plays a crucial role in the party's appeal. This model includes providing subsidies on electricity and water, enhancing government schools, establishing Mohalla clinics, and launching various public welfare schemes. Despite criticism from detractors who deem these policies unsustainable, they have proven popular among the public, reportedly saving Delhi households an average of ₹2,464 monthly.
In preparation for the upcoming elections, AAP has strategically positioned itself against its opponents by questioning their lack of a Chief Ministerial candidate with the rhetorical "Arvind Kejriwal vs Who?". The party has broadened its array of promises, offering free healthcare for the elderly, insurance for auto drivers, and financial assistance for Hindu and Sikh priests, to name a few. Additionally, AAP's collaboration with the political consultancy I-PAC signifies a well-calculated campaign approach. Despite facing allegations of corruption, notably the Delhi Liquor Policy scam which led to the arrest and subsequent bail of top AAP leaders, the party continues to engage with the electorate through initiatives like 'Rewdi par Charcha'.
This approach helps maintain its strong grassroots connection, even as it combats a ten-year anti-incumbency wave and attempts to dispel the tarnished image of clean governance. The BJP, seizing on these allegations, has intensified its campaign, calling for change and branding the current AAP administration as a "government of criminals on bail."
With the BJP holding a consistent 30% vote share but failing to secure a win in Delhi since 1998, the party is now rallying under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for a significant turnaround.
Modi has been vocal in his criticism of AAP's governance, specifically targeting the extravagant expenditures on Kejriwal's official residence.
As the election day draws near, with results expected on February 8, the primary focus is on whether AAP can navigate through these hurdles and clinch a third term. This election is not just about political power but also about continuing a governance model that has profoundly affected the lives of Delhi's citizens, making it one of the most closely monitored electoral battles in recent times.
