DDA Bulldozers Raze Encroachments In Delhi's Kalkaji; Batla House, Muradi Road In List Next
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) initiated a significant demolition operation in various parts of New Delhi, focusing on illegal structures in the Kalkaji slum cluster, Batla House, and Muradi Road. This action follows a directive from the Delhi High Court and prior notification to residents.
In the Bhoomihin Camp area of Kalkaji, over 1,200 illegal shanties were dismantled by the DDA. The encroachments were on DDA land and included multi-storey buildings within the JJ cluster. The demolition began at 5 am with five bulldozers and is set to continue for remaining structures.

Police Presence Ensures Order
A substantial police force was present to maintain order during the demolition. The case concerning these structures had been in court for nearly ten years. Eventually, the High Court denied relief to squatters, allowing demolitions to proceed.
As part of a broader anti-encroachment campaign, similar actions are planned in other areas of the capital. In Batla House, notices were issued on May 26 for residents to vacate properties within five days. Homes on Muradi Road and Khizr Baba Colony have been marked for demolition.
Legal Intervention Delays Demolition
However, demolition in Khizr Baba Colony has been temporarily halted due to legal intervention. The Delhi High Court is expected to hear this matter later today. Meanwhile, alternative housing has been offered to eligible residents as part of a rehabilitation plan.
This extensive drive by the DDA aims to address illegal constructions across multiple areas in New Delhi.
