Delhi's transport infrastructure upgrade targets completion by December 2026, featuring over 104 km of new metro lines and key flyover projects aimed at reducing congestion. Major Phase IV metro corridors, including Majlis Park to RK Ashram and Tughlaqabad to Aerocity, are nearing completion alongside road infrastructure developments.

She emphasised that developing a modern and efficient public transport system is a top priority for the government, aimed at reducing traffic congestion, making daily travel smoother, and lowering pollution levels across the city.

During a high-level meeting held at the Delhi Secretariat, senior officials, including the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, were present. The discussion focused on improving coordination between metro expansion and road infrastructure so that the overall transport system becomes more effective.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the Delhi Metro network currently spans 416 kilometres, with 303 stations, 12 lines, and 32 interchange stations. In addition, 104.45 kilometres of new metro lines and 81 stations are under construction. The Phase-IV expansion is progressing steadily, with physical progress reaching nearly 80 percent and financial progress also crossing the 80 percent mark.

After the review, the Chief Minister stated that several important metro sections have already been opened for public use, including routes connecting Majlis Park to Maujpur, Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park, and Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension. She added that key corridors such as Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk, Majlis Park to RK Ashram, and Tughlaqabad to Aerocity are expected to be completed by December 2026.

These corridors are expected to significantly improve connectivity between different parts of the city and reduce travel time for commuters.

Work has also begun on other important Phase-IV corridors, including Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block, Inderlok to Indraprastha, and Rithala to Kundli, which are targeted for completion by March 2029. At the same time, Phase-V(A) projects are also moving forward, covering routes such as RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal 1, and Tughlaqabad to Kalindi Kunj.

These expansions are being planned with a long-term vision to meet Delhi's growing transport needs.

Alongside metro expansion, several integrated road and flyover projects are also being developed to ease traffic pressure on busy routes. The Azadpur to Tripolia Chowk flyover, a double-decker structure designed for both metro and road use, is nearing completion, while the Yamuna Vihar to Bhajanpura flyover is also in an advanced stage.

In South Delhi, work is progressing on a major flyover project along MB Road, which includes a six-lane elevated corridor and underpasses at key junctions. Another flyover project from Maa Anandmayi Marg to Pul Prahladpur is currently in the design and planning stage.

Officials noted that some challenges, including permissions from the Archaeological Survey of India, tree cutting approvals, and land acquisition issues, are affecting timelines. However, the government is working to resolve these issues quickly to ensure that projects stay on track.

Looking ahead, new proposals have also been prepared, including a 19.2-kilometre elevated road along the Yamuna from Wazirabad to DND, as well as a flyover from Tripolia Gate to Barfkhana, which will further strengthen Delhi's road network.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the expansion of the metro and the development of road infrastructure will act as a lifeline for the capital. She highlighted that these projects will not only make travel faster and more convenient but will also play a major role in reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality.

She also directed officials to ensure regular monitoring of all projects and to complete them within the set deadlines, so that residents of Delhi can benefit from a more efficient and sustainable transport system.
