CM Rekha Gupta Honours COVID Frontline Heroes, Gives ₹1 Crore Aid To Families Of Deceased Workers

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday met the families of frontline workers who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic, paying tribute to their service and sacrifice while extending long-pending financial support to bereaved households.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister handed over financial assistance of ₹1 crore each to six families whose compensation had remained pending for years. She said the Delhi government stands with the families "with respect, compassion, and commitment".

₹1 Crore Assistance Handed Over to Six Families

In a significant move, Rekha Gupta provided ₹1 crore each to six families of frontline workers who died while serving during the pandemic, addressing compensation that had reportedly remained unresolved for several years.

The gesture was presented as both financial support and a recognition of the sacrifices made by those who continued working in difficult and high-risk conditions during the health crisis.

Delhi Police Traffic ASI Radhey Shyam's Family Also Receives Support

Among those honoured was the family of Delhi Police Traffic Unit Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shri Radhey Shyam, who made what the government described as the supreme sacrifice while performing duty during the pandemic.

His family was also given financial assistance of ₹1 crore as part of the Chief Minister's outreach to families of frontline workers who died in the line of duty.

CM Says Sacrifice of Frontline Workers Will Always Be Remembered

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister acknowledged that no monetary relief can truly compensate for the loss suffered by the families.

She said, "while no compensation can make up for such an irreparable loss, the support reflects the government's unwavering resolve to honour their sacrifice and ensure that their contributions are always remembered."

The statement underlined the government's intent to formally recognise the role of frontline workers who risked, and in many cases lost, their lives while protecting the public during the COVID-19 emergency.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Bereaved Families

The Chief Minister also assured the affected families that the Delhi government remains committed to supporting them not only through financial aid but also through continued institutional respect for the sacrifices made by their loved ones.

The outreach comes as part of a broader effort to acknowledge the service of pandemic-era frontline personnel whose contributions were central to the city's response during one of its most difficult public health crises.
