After Bengaluru Water Crisis, Delhi Faces Water Shortage: See List Of Affected Areas, Reason Behind Scarcity

Days after India's tech capital Bengaluru faced water crisis, national capital Delhi is now undergoing the same situation. Several parts of Delhi saw water shortage and residents have had to wait in a long queue for hours for water tankers.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Delhi Government called an emergency meeting at the Secretariat to discuss the roadmap to deal with shortage of water supply during summers. The demand has increased and supply has been shortened due to hovering temperatures around the 50 degrees celsius.

Delhi Faces Water Shortage

Sharing their problems and concerns, some residents of East Delhi's Geeta Colony said, they are facing shortage of supply water, adding that they are getting half of amount of water required for daily usage.

Vinay, a student and resident, said, "We are facing a severe water crisis. Our locality has a population of around 3,000-4,000 people, but the government sends only half the required number of tankers."

Another resident. Shabru Khatun said, "There are a lot of problems regarding water in this area. We get only one tanker for the entire area. The tanker water is used for drinking and cooking purposes. Sometimes, we don't even get the tanker, and we are forced to buy bottled water."

Another person, on the condition of anonymity, said, people of the area informed and complained to the MLA multiple times, but no action was taken.

What Is The Reason Behind Water Shortage:

Delhi's Water Minister, and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi said that water shortage situation has arised because of Haryana has cut down on release of Yamuna water to Delhi since the beginning of May.

She also requested people of Delhi to save water and do not waste it.

"I know that where water is being supplied twice a day, people will be troubled if it is cut off for once a day, but I appeal to all Delhiites that we should not think only about ourselves. We should think about everyone," she said.

Areas like Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, Panchsheel Park, Hauz Khas, Chittaranjan Park, and nearby locations are also facing water crisis.

A month ago, people of Bengaluru faced similar drought like situation.
