AAP emptied the Exchequer’: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on ₹2,500 aid scheme for women

Ahead of the assembly elections, the BJP pledged a monthly aid of ₹2,500 for women from "poor families" under the 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojana.' On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the previous AAP government had drained the public Exchequer, yet her administration remains committed to implementing the ₹2,500 monthly scheme for women.
Before the assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pledged a monthly aid of ₹2,500 for women from "poor families" under the 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojana' and a one-time assistance of ₹21,000 for pregnant women in its Delhi election manifesto.

"The state of affairs left by the previous government is such that, upon reviewing the financial status with officials, the public Exchequer appears completely depleted. The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana is a consistent initiative for the people of Delhi, a sustained effort for our sisters, and we will launch it with thorough planning," said Rekha Gupta while addressing a press conference.

She also said that all MLAs would take oath during the first session of the Delhi government. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker would be elected, while the pro-tem speakers would be sworn in by the lieutenant governor on Monday.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi had earlier written to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, requesting a meeting with the AAP legislative delegation on February 23 to discuss the implementation of the ₹2,500 monthly aid scheme for women, a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election campaign.

Atishi also noted that despite the first cabinet meeting being held on February 20, the promised scheme had not yet been approved. She further stated, "The women of Delhi placed their trust in Modi Ji's guarantee, but now they feel betrayed."

Atishi stated that if Prime Minister Modi's guarantee was genuine, the women's aid scheme would have been approved in the first cabinet meeting. She accused Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of revealing Modi Ji's "false claims" on her very first day in office.
