2 Big Events In Delhi Today: Overcrowding Expected In Metros, Routes To Avoid; Check Traffic Advisory

The traffic movement is expected to be affected on Tuesday over two big events to be held in central Delhi.

While 'Run for Unity' is held today to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at Vanijya Bhawan in Akbar Road at 8 am, a programme marking the culmination of Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign's Amrit Kalash Yatra at Kartavya Path is held at around 5 pm.

About 7,700 people are taking part in the run, and at least one lakh people, including ministers and dignitaries, will attend the event at Vijay Chowk, The Times of India reported citing traffic officials. Hence, the authorities have issued a traffic advisory.

As per the advisory, traffic rules and diversions will be enforced on the roads heading towards Vijay Chowk on Tuesday. The restrictions will be effective from 9 am to 9 pm.

Heavy vehicle movement will be regulated in New Delhi and at the ISBTs. People heading to Vayu Bhawan, Sena Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Parliament House, South and North Blocks, Central Secretariat, Rashtrapati Bhawan, and India Gate have been advised to allocate ample time for their travelling.

C-Hexagon will be closed from 6:45 am to 9 am to facilitate a run as part of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. This run will commence from gate number 1 of Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. Traffic will be redirected via Tilak Marg-Bhagwan Das Road, Purana Quila Road, Mathura Road, Shershah Road, Mathura Road, Subramanian Bharti Marg, Q-Point, and the roundabouts at Mansingh Road, Jaswant Singh Road, KG Marg-Firozeshah Road intersection, and Mandi House, as indicated in the advisory.

For commuters travelling from north to south Delhi or vice versa, alternate routes such as Ring Road-Sarai Kale Khan-IP flyover Rajghat and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg-Mathura Road-W Point-A Point can be taken to circumvent traffic congestion. Those moving from east to west or vice versa can consider the IP Marg-A Point-W Point-Sikandra Road-Mandi House-Firozeshah Road roundabout-Windsor Place-Ashoka Road-Gol Dak Khana-RML-Shankar Road, NH-9-Ring Road-Bhairon Marg-Mathura Road-SBM-Q Point-Abdul Kalam Marg route to avoid potential delays.

How will it impact Metro travellers?

Those who travel on Metros regularly should note that they can expect possible crowding on the Yellow and Violet lines. Increased passenger numbers are expected during boarding and deboarding at Sultanpur, Ghitorni, Qutab Minar, Central Sec, Guru Dronacharya, IFFCO Chowk, Arjan Garh, Udyog Bhawan, and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium stations.

Commuters are recommended to plan their travel accordingly.
