Western Railway Unveils New Parking And Storage Facility At Bandra Terminus To Enhance Urban Space Management

Western Railway has initiated a new parking and storage facility at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai Central division. This facility, located beneath the elevated road near the station, began operations on 12 July. It aims to improve urban space management and boost revenue by catering to the rising demand for organised parcel storage due to its proximity to significant wholesale and retail markets.

The contract for this facility was awarded through an e-tendering process. It encompasses a total area of 3735.02 square metres, with 3362.02 square metres designated for vehicle parking and 373 square metres allocated for parcel stacking. The facility will be operational until 11 July 2028.

Revenue Boost from New Facility

This new arrangement is expected to generate an annual licence fee of INR 1,52,31,313 for the railways. This figure marks a substantial increase of 145.7% compared to the previous parking agreement, which was valued at INR 62,00,674 per year. The enhanced revenue reflects the strategic importance of this location.

The decision to establish this facility was driven by the increasing need for locally organised parcel storage at Bandra Terminus. Its strategic location near major commercial centres makes it an ideal spot for such a development. The dual-purpose facility offers both vehicle parking and storage space, addressing multiple needs simultaneously.
