Western Railway Makes OTP Mandatory For Tatkal Bookings On Mumbai–Ahmedabad Shatabdi — Details Inside

In an effort to strengthen transparency and curb the misuse of Tatkal reservations, Western Railway is introducing a new OTP-based authentication process for Tatkal ticket bookings.

Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, confirmed that the upgraded verification system will first be launched for Train Nos. 12009/12010 Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express.

System to Go Live on 1 December 2025

Implemented as per directives from the Railway Board, the new system will come into effect from 00:00 hours on 1 December 2025. The OTP validation requirement will apply across all ticketing platforms-computerized PRS counters, authorized agents, the IRCTC website, and the IRCTC mobile application.

OTP Confirmation Mandatory for Tatkal Tickets

Under the revised process, Tatkal tickets will only be issued once passengers verify a system-generated One-Time Password (OTP). The OTP will be sent to the mobile number provided at the time of booking, and the ticket will be confirmed only after successful authentication.

Objective: Reduce Fraud and Enhance Transparency

Railway officials explained that the initiative aims to ensure fair access to Tatkal seats and prevent fraudulent practices. Passengers have been advised to provide an active and accessible mobile number to avoid any issues during the verification process.

Passengers Requested to Cooperate

Western Railway has urged travellers to take note of the new requirement and cooperate, stating that the updated system will help ensure smoother, more transparent Tatkal ticket bookings.
