Water Levels In Mumbai Lakes Rise To 37% Amid Varied Rainfall Patterns: Check Detailed BMC Report
The water stock in Mumbai's crucial reservoirs has seen a marginal increase despite intermittent and varied rainfall patterns across the city. As reported by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the collective water levels in the seven lakes that supply Mumbai's drinking water have reached 37 per cent.
Currently, the lakes hold approximately 5,46,674 million litres of water, according to BMC data released on X, formerly known as Twitter. These reservoirs include Tulsi, Tansa, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna, and Middle Vaitarna, each contributing to Mumbai's water supply network.

Detailed data reveals the following water levels in specific reservoirs: Tansa at 73.12 per cent, Modak Sagar at 57.77 per cent, Middle Vaitarna at 34.41 per cent, Upper Vaitarna at 7.06 per cent, Bhatsa at 36.41 per cent, Vihar at 54.46 per cent, and Tulsi at 84.64 per cent of their respective capacity.
Mumbai Rainfall Records
Mumbai has experienced a significant amount of rainfall this season, nearing the 1,000 millimetre mark for July alone, with a total of 915 millimetres recorded thus far. From June 1 to July 16, the IMD Santacruz observatory recorded a total of 1262.5 mm of rainfall, including 347 millimetre in June. Although the city witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall last week, the intensity has tapered since July 14. Recent data from the IMD Santacruz observatory reported 49 millimetres of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on July 16, while the Colaba observatory recorded 22.4 millimetres during the same timeframe, as per TOI.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain expected on Wednesday. Temperatures are likely to range between 23 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast for the next seven days indicates Mumbai will experience varying intensities of rain under predominantly cloudy skies.
On July 18, temperatures will hover between 24 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius with moderate rain. July 19 may see heavy rainfall with temperatures remaining steady at 24 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius. July 20 will bring moderate rain with temperatures ranging from 25 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius, followed by continuing rain on July 21 and 22 with temperatures ranging from 24 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius.
Overall, the upcoming week promises a mix of moderate to heavy rainfall, providing much-needed relief from the prevailing weather conditions in Mumbai.
