In a recent incident in Mumbai, four policemen were suspended following the emergence of a CCTV video that allegedly captured them planting drugs on a man during a raid.

The video, which has been shared by @zindashahid on X (formerly known as Twitter), has since gone viral, shows two officers conducting a search on the individual, while two others closely monitor the operation. Disturbingly, one of the officers is seen slipping an item into the suspect's hip pocket.

The officers involved, comprising a police sub-inspector and three constables, were part of the anti-terror cell attached to the Khar police station. They were executing a raid on an open plot of land in the Kalina area of Mumbai on Friday, where they detained the suspect, identified as Daniel.

Daniel, who spoke to reporters after the incident, claimed that the police had threatened to falsely implicate him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He further alleged that the officers only released him after realising that their actions had been recorded on CCTV.

In response to the viral video, the Mumbai Police acted swiftly, suspending the four officers involved and launching a departmental inquiry to investigate the matter further. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Raj Tilak Roushan confirmed the suspension, stating that the conduct of the accused officers during the search operation was in clear violation of legal procedures.

DCP Roushan also indicated that disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the suspended officers, and they remain under investigation. "They reached the location based on information about drugs, but everything that transpired is visible in the CCTV footage," he remarked.

Adding another layer to the incident, one of Daniel's associates told a news channel that the raid may have been motivated by a dispute between Daniel and a local builder over the ownership of the plot of land where the raid took place. This allegation raises further questions about the intentions behind the police operation and the validity of the charges that were initially levelled against Daniel.
