Virar To Dahanu Railway Project: 35% Complete, Deadline Set For Boosting Train Services By 200 Plus

The four-laning work between Virar and Dahanu, being carried out by the Maharashtra Rural Development Corporation (MRVC), is now 35 per cent complete. The project, which is part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-3, is expected to be finished by 2027, according to a Lokmat report.

With a budget of Rs 3,578 crore, this 64 kilometres project involves the construction of third and fourth tracks. These new tracks will help reduce congestion on the existing double-track route, which currently faces heavy traffic from suburban, freight, and express trains. This has previously limited the efficiency of services and hindered the expansion of train trips in the region.

The MRVC has stated that the new route will increase local train services by more than 200, providing significant relief to passengers. Currently, there are only six to seven direct trains operating daily between Churchgate and Dahanu, but once the quadrupling is completed, services on this route will be significantly boosted. This improvement is expected to make daily commuting much more convenient for people traveling between Virar and Dahanu.

In addition to the tracks, construction work on station buildings and bridges is underway at key stations, including Virar, Vaitarna, Saphale, Kelve Road, Dahanu Road, and Umroli. These upgrades are crucial to the overall success of the project and will enhance the comfort and efficiency of the stations for passengers.

The Virar-Dahanu Road quadrupling project is expected to ease congestion on both the suburban and main railway network. Once completed, it will significantly improve train services, benefiting lakhs of passengers.

Vilas Sopan Wadekar, Chairman and Managing Director of MRVC, assured that the project will be completed on time, providing much-needed relief to the growing number of commuters.
