Versova To Bhayandar In 20 Minutes? BMC Begins Coastal Road Work
On July 10, 2025, Mumbai's skyline shifted gears. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officially kicked off work on the north phase of the ambitious Mumbai Coastal Road Project-this time turning the spotlight to Goregaon. This isn't just another road-it's a 20-minute promise to those stuck in the 90-minute grind between Versova and Bhayandar.
What's Cooking in the North Phase?
Stretching from Versova to Bhayandar, the new phase slices through Goregaon and Malad, bringing with it a wave of cutting-edge infrastructure-elevated roads, sleek interchanges, twin tunnels, and even sea links that'll make your commute feel like a breeze (or at least a cinematic drive).

From Gridlock to Glide:
Currently, that trip eats up 90 to 120 minutes. Once this project hits the road? Just 20 minutes. That's your Netflix episode, your power nap, your weekday salvation.
The Green Math:
Yes, it comes at an environmental cost. Around 8.24 hectares of mangrove forest will be lost. But the BMC promises a green payback-137,000 new mangroves to be planted. A loss, yes-but with a plan for ecological redemption.
Price Tag? A Cool ₹20,000 Crore.
The project is carved into six mega packages. Package A, which covers the 4.5 km stretch from Versova to Bangur Nagar, is now in the spotlight as groundwork begins.
Red Tape, Green Lights:
The BMC already holds the Stage-1 (in-principle) approval from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for diverting mangrove land. Now, they're heading to the High Court for that final go-ahead before full-scale action begins.
What's Next?
For now, it's about land acquisition and checking off the last of those bureaucratic boxes. Once the High Court signs off, construction will surge ahead-transforming Goregaon into a gateway to Mumbai's future.
