Vegetable Price In Maharashtra: Cauliflower To Garlic Sees Major Hike; Check The Latest Prices Inside
This year, heavy rainfall has affected several parts of Maharashtra, leading to a decrease in vegetable production, according to the Lokmat report. Due to a drop in vegetable imports, the prices have risen significantly. As Margashirsha begins, many families are observing fasting traditions and avoiding meat, which has further driven up the demand for vegetables.
At present, in Mumbai's wholesale markets, the prices of most vegetables range from Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kg. In the retail markets, these prices have doubled. For example, garlic now costs Rs 500 per kg, while peas are priced at Rs 140 per kg. The cost of cauliflower continues to rise, currently at Rs 30 per kilo, and cabbage is being sold at Rs 35 per kilo. Cowpea and guar are priced at Rs 30 to Rs 35, and padwal is fetching Rs 50 per kilo.

Chilli prices remain high at Rs 40 per kilo, and fenugreek, known for its nutritional benefits, is in high demand, now priced at Rs 400 per kg.
Leafy Vegetables Also See Price Hike
The prices of leafy vegetables are also seeing a sharp rise this year. In October, coriander was priced between Rs 40 and Rs 50, but now it costs Rs 50 to Rs 60. Fenugreek and spinach were priced at Rs 35 per kg in November, but they too have increased by Rs 5 to Rs 10. This price hike is making vegetables unaffordable for many people.
Delays In Planting
Heavy rains in October delayed the planting season for many farmers, which has further reduced the supply of vegetables in Mumbai. This has led to lower availability from various districts and has contributed to the price increase.
Ram Gaikwad, a vegetable trader, added in the report that the fast in Margashirsha has intensified the demand for vegetarian food. However, the reduced supply of vegetables this year, coupled with high demand, has resulted in increased prices.
Price Comparison Between October and November:
- Peas: Rs 100-140 (November) | Rs 100-120 (October)
- Surana: Rs 50-60 (November) | Rs 40-50 (October)
- Okra: Rs 80-100 (November) | Rs 80-90 (October)
- Eggplant: Rs 80-90 (November) | Rs 70-80 (October)
- Guar: Rs 100-130 (November) | Rs 100-120 (October)
- Tomatoes: Rs 50-60 (November) | Rs 40-50 (October)
- Onion: Rs 60-70 (November) | Rs 60-70 (October)
- Potatoes: Rs 40-50 (November) | Rs 30-40 (October)
As vegetable prices continue to rise, many households are feeling the strain on their budgets. The situation highlights the impact of delayed planting and seasonal changes on both supply and demand in the market.
