Track BMC Projects On The Go: New QR Code Feature Introduced For Mumbaikars

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to introduce a QR code scanning system that will allow citizens to easily access information about ongoing projects across the city, according to a Midday report. By scanning the QR code with their smartphones, residents can find details such as project dates, locations, and the duration of work being carried out by the civic body.

The initiative was shared by Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar during an inspection tour. He stated that this new feature will help improve transparency and provide citizens with quick and easy access to information regarding various BMC projects.

On Tuesday, Bangar inspected the road concretisation works at Purushottam Thakurdas Marg near Hutatma Smarak Chowk and RS Sapre Marg in Kalbadevi. During the visit, he also took the opportunity to review previously completed concrete roads. He emphasized that the QR code facility is an important step in making civic work more transparent and could be expanded to other infrastructure projects in the future.

Dr. KV Krishna Rao, Deputy Director and Senior Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai, accompanied Bangar during the inspection. Dr. Rao provided valuable insights on quality variations observed when using the same concrete mixture at different locations. He also discussed the permissible deviation in the quality of concrete used in the construction process.

Various technical tests, including cube tests, slump tests, and bar tests, were carried out to ensure the integrity of the Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) process. Additionally, a "sand patch" test was performed on a newly opened concrete road to assess its surface texture and depth.

The inspection also included a discussion on the challenges in concrete road construction, with IIT experts and quality control representatives participating in the conversation.
