This ID Proof Now Mandatory For Drinking In Maharashtra Pubs and Bars
The Maharashtra government has introduced a new rule, mandating that individuals produce a government-issued identity card to consume alcohol in pubs and bars effective immediately. This decision was taken following a recent Porsche car accident in Pune, where a minor drove under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals. The incident sparked widespread criticism against the police and administration.
In response, pub and bar operators have also implemented their own stringent rules. To prevent minors from consuming alcohol, establishments will now require proof of age before serving drinks. This measure aims to address the recurring issue of minors driving under the influence of alcohol in cities like Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur.

To verify age, establishments will check the age recorded on government-issued identity cards at the entrance. The age limit for consuming wine and beer is 21 years, while it is 25 years for strong liquor.
In related news, Vishal Agarwal, the father of a minor involved in the Pune Porsche accident case, is facing legal trouble after another case was registered against him at the Hinjewadi police station.
