Terror Scare: Mumbai Airport T2 On High Alert After Email Threat, Bitcoin Ransom Sought

The Mumbai International Airport on Thursday received a threatening email indicating to blow up Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The sender of the email has demanded a payment of 1 million dollars in Bitcoin within 48 hours to prevent this purported blast, according to reports.

Mumbai Police, through the Sahar Police, initiated a case against an unidentified individual using the email address "[email protected]," responsible for the threatening communication. The email was directed to the feedback inbox of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) at approximately 11:06 am on Thursday.

Contents of the threatening email included the following: "Subject: Blast. Body: This is a final warning to your airport. We will blast Terminal 2 within 48 hours unless one million dollars in Bitcoin is transferred to the address. Another alert will be given after 24 hours."

In response to the threat, heightened security measures were implemented at the airport premises.

Following the complaint filed by MIAL officer Vismay Pathak, who received the threatening email at the airport's quality and customer service center, an FIR has been lodged. The email explicitly threatened an airport explosion within 48 hours if the ransom was not fulfilled.

The police registered the FIR under sections 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion) and 505 (1) (b) (statements intended to cause fear or alarm) of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified individual responsible for the threatening demand for ransom.

Reports suggest that the police have traced the IP address linked to the threatening email and are actively engaged in identifying the culprit. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
