Rs 29,000 Diwali Bonus For BMC Employees Announced By Maharashtra CM

Just before the Election Commission of India disclosed the election timetable for Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made a significant announcement. He declared a Diwali bonus of Rs 28,000 for all Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees, a momentous decision made moments ahead of the official election schedule revelation. This gesture extends beyond BMC staff, including state kindergarten teachers and Asha workers, marking a Rs 3,000 increase from last year's bonus. On November 8 of the previous year, Shinde had announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 26,000 for these employees, highlighting a consistent effort to appreciate and reward their service.

In a further move to boost employee morale, the BMC administration has announced it will provide a gratuity grant of Rs 29,000 to its staff. This decision came after discussions between the Chief Minister and the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, prompted by demands from the Coordinating Committee of various Workers and Employees Associations of the Municipal Corporation. This grant aims to benefit a wide range of employees, including municipal officers and employees, teaching and non-teaching staff in both municipal and subsidized private primary schools, secondary school staff, Adhyapak Vidyalaya adjunct lecturers, and Teacher Vidyalaya Shikshan Sevak, each receiving Rs 29,000. Additionally, social health volunteers will receive a bonus of Rs 12,000, while kindergarten teachers and helpers are set to get Rs 5,000.

This announcement coincides with the upcoming single-phase voting for the 288-member Maharashtra assembly scheduled for November 20, with the counting of votes to take place on November 23. The current assembly's term concludes on November 26, 2024, making this election particularly significant. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been in effect in Maharashtra following the EC's announcement, ensuring a fair and orderly election process.

In conclusion, the decision to award Diwali bonuses and gratuity grants to BMC employees and other educational and health workers reflects a commitment to recognizing their hard work and dedication. As Maharashtra gears up for the forthcoming assembly elections, these gestures of appreciation are timely and reaffirm the government's support for its employees.
