Reay Road Cable Bridge To Be Open Soon: Six Lanes, Pedestrian Paths Included
The cable-stayed road overbridge (ROB) at Reay Road, the first of its kind in Mumbai suburbs, has been completed and will soon open for traffic, according to a Midday report. This bridge will run through the heritage Reay Road station, connecting Byculla East and Mahul Road, and crossing over the Harbour line to connect with the Eastern Freeway.
An official from the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MRIDC) stated, "The project is completed, and we are finalising the inauguration date. The inspection is done, and lighting work on the bridge is finished." When asked if the bridge would be handed over to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the official replied, "We cannot comment on this as the inauguration date is still pending."

The construction of this bridge involved relocating one railway ticket counter, 130 chawls, and 15 sheds. The construction work for the cable-stayed ROB began on February 14, 2022, with the aim of addressing the city's traffic congestion.
The bridge has been designed to improve traffic flow and includes six lanes, with footpaths for pedestrians. It will also allow vehicles to pass through the Barrister Nath Pai Road underpass while maintaining vertical clearance under the Eastern Freeway for passing vehicles. A health monitoring system will be installed for safety measures. Additionally, MRIDC plans to install architectural LED lighting beneath the bridge, enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and safety at night.
Once completed, the bridge will provide smoother connectivity between Byculla East and the Eastern Freeway, helping ease the traffic in the area. It is expected to improve overall traffic management and safety, benefiting commuters in the surrounding areas.
