Raj Thackeray Enters Matoshree After 13 Years On Uddhav Thackeray's Birthday

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray visited Matoshree, the iconic residence of the Thackerays in Mumbai, after 13 years. This visit was to celebrate the birthday of his cousin, Uddhav Thackeray, who leads Shiv Sena (UBT). The last time Raj entered Matoshree was in 2012 during Balasaheb Thackeray's funeral.

Accompanying Raj were MNS leaders Bala Nandgaonkar and Nitin Sardesai. Inside Matoshree, a photograph captured Raj and Uddhav with Balasaheb's portrait in the background. Another image showed Raj presenting a bouquet to Uddhav on his birthday. A video depicted Uddhav cutting his cake while family and Sena leaders sang 'Happy Birthday' in Hindi, though Raj wasn't visible in it.

Political Reconciliation

The cousins recently reunited politically after two decades over Marathi identity and Hindi language issues. They shared a stage at a "victory" rally in Worli. During this event, Uddhav hinted at contesting upcoming civic elections together. "We have come together to stay together," he stated, aiming for joint power capture in Mumbai's civic body and Maharashtra.

Before this reconciliation, Raj had left Shiv Sena in 2005 due to disagreements with Uddhav and subsequently founded MNS. Since then, they have been political rivals. Their reunion on July 5 came amid calls for unity as BJP expanded its influence in Maharashtra by aligning with Eknath Shinde, who split Shiv Sena in 2022.

Historical Context

Raj humorously remarked that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis achieved what even Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray couldn't: reuniting the cousins. This political alliance is significant given their past rivalry and the current political dynamics in Maharashtra.

Their collaboration signifies a strategic move against BJP's growing presence. By joining forces, they aim to strengthen their position in the state's political landscape and challenge BJP's alliances.

This reunion marks a pivotal moment for both leaders as they navigate the evolving political scene in Maharashtra. Their partnership could reshape future electoral strategies and outcomes.
