Navi Mumbai Water Cut: Supply Still Not Restored By CIDCO Even After 2 Day Shutdown

A 48-hour emergency water cut announced by CIDCO for urgent pipeline repairs has turned into an extended crisis for Navi Mumbai residents, particularly in Ulwe, Dronagiri, Kharghar, and Taloja. Despite official assurances that water supply would resume by Friday, July 11, several sectors, including Ulwe Sector 17, remained without water even by Saturday evening.

Navi Mumbai Water Cut Supply Still Not Restored Even After After 48-Hour Repair Shutdown

Tanker Dependency and No Relief in Sight

The extended disruption has left residents relying heavily on private water tankers, leading to increased expenses and growing frustration. Citizens report facing inconsistent water availability, with many areas not receiving even the low-pressure supply CIDCO had promised.

"It's been over three days without water in Ulwe. We're spending out of pocket, and there's still no clarity on when normal supply will resume," said a local resident.

Why the Cut Was Announced

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) initially declared the 48-hour water cut from Wednesday, July 9, to Thursday, July 10, due to emergency repair work on the Hetwane pipeline near the Kharpada bridge. The maintenance was expected to restore full supply by Friday, but the extended delay has triggered public outrage.

CIDCO later stated that water would be restored at low pressure and in reduced quantity, urging citizens to use water judiciously. However, this has proven insufficient in rapidly developing areas where demand is already high.

Kharghar's Chronic Water Crisis

In Kharghar, the situation is particularly dire. Residents from 12 surrounding villages report getting water for only 30 minutes twice a day, if at all. Some claim they often go multiple days without any water supply.

"This isn't new. We regularly go without water for two to three days," said a resident from Owe village.

Another questioned the authenticity of the shortage:

"If there's truly a water shortage, how are private water tankers operating so efficiently every day?"

Social Media Uproar and Public Pressure Mounts

Angry citizens have turned to social media to demand accountability. Hashtags like
#KhargharchaPaniPrashnaAdhiveshnathManda and #LakVaitagliAhet
are being used in campaigns pressuring the Maharashtra state government and urban planning bodies to raise the issue during the ongoing legislative session.

Activists also demand that the financial burden on housing societies, due to tanker water purchases, be addressed through policy reforms and infrastructure upgrades.

What Residents Are Demanding:
A permanent solution to Navi Mumbai's recurring water crisis

Transparent audits of private tanker operations

Infrastructure upgrades for sustainable water distribution

Government-level accountability and timely communication

Conclusion
The ongoing Navi Mumbai water cut has once again highlighted the fragility of urban water infrastructure in rapidly growing regions. As residents in Ulwe, Kharghar, and other affected areas continue to cope with tanker dependency and lack of clear updates, the demand for long-term, transparent water management has never been louder.
