Navi Mumbai Water Cut: CIDCO Announces 2-Day Water Cut In These Areas

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has suspended water supply for 48 hours across several Navi Mumbai nodes including Dronagiri, Ulwe, Kharghar, and Taloja, triggering sharp public outrage. The water cut, which began on July 9 (Wednesday) and continued through July 10 (Thursday), was due to emergency repair work on the Hetwane pipeline near the Kharpada bridge.

Although CIDCO has announced that water supply will resume on Friday, July 11, it will be at low pressure and in reduced quantity. The disruption has reignited discussions around water management and distribution transparency in these rapidly growing urban areas.

Chronic Water Woes in Navi Mumbai

Residents, particularly in Kharghar, have called the disruption the latest episode in a chronic water crisis. In 12 villages within the node, water is reportedly available for just 30 minutes, twice a day-and often not at all for multiple consecutive days.

"This is not a one-off issue. We go two or three days without water regularly," said a resident of Owe village.

Another resident questioned, "If there's truly a water shortage, how are private water tankers operating so efficiently every day?"

Social Media Campaigns Demand Government Action

Frustrated citizens have taken to social media, voicing their concerns using hashtags like:

#KhargharchaPaniPrashnaAdhiveshnathManda, #LakVaitagliAhet

These campaigns are aimed at pressuring the Maharashtra state government and planning agencies to raise the issue in the ongoing legislative session and implement long-term solutions.

Activists argue that the financial burden placed on housing societies-due to the need to purchase tanker water-must be acknowledged and resolved through policy-level action.

Residents Call for Long-Term Water Solution

While CIDCO has urged residents to use water judiciously during the restoration period, many believe the situation has escalated beyond the scope of temporary fixes.

"It's been over three days without water in Ulwe. We are spending out of our pockets, and there's still no clarity on when normal supply will resume," said a local resident.

Citizens are now demanding:

A permanent solution to Navi Mumbai's water crisis

Transparent audits of private tanker operations

Infrastructure upgrades to ensure fair and adequate distribution
