Navi Mumbai Police have implemented a traffic management plan, effective until August 26th, for devotees traveling to Konkan for Ganeshotsav via Panvel, including toll exemptions and help centers. The plan, crafted by DCP Tirupati Kakde and overseen by Commissioner Milind Bharambe, will utilize 62 officers and 700 personnel across key routes like the Sion-Panvel Highway, with support facilities for smooth travel.

Traffic Management and Support Facilities

Under the leadership of senior officers, 62 officers and nearly 700 personnel will manage traffic. On Friday, fewer vehicles headed to Konkan due to Amavasya, but an increase is expected from Saturday. Approximately 3,500 MSRTC buses are anticipated to leave from Mumbai and Thane districts for Konkan.

Vehicles travelling during Ganeshotsav can get toll exemption through a special pass. Motorists can obtain this pass within five minutes by presenting their driver's license and vehicle documents at traffic outposts or local police stations.

Help Centres and Emergency Services

Three special help centres will be established for vehicles entering Navi Mumbai from Mumbai. These centres will offer traffic updates, essential facilities, and immediate police assistance. They will also have essential medicines, first-aid kits, ambulances, torches, ropes, and other emergency tools for quick aid during accidents or unforeseen events.

"To prevent congestion due to vehicle breakdowns, 11 cranes will remain stationed along highways to swiftly remove stalled vehicles," stated DCP Kakde. Additionally, 14 mechanics will be available for on-the-spot repairs. Alternate routes are planned for every important junction in case of heavy traffic jams.

Beat Marshals and Facilitation Centres

To address traffic jams quickly, 22 beat marshals will be deployed at key congestion-prone spots. They will promptly reach these sites to regulate vehicular movement effectively. Five facilitation centres have been set up along the route: three by PWD and two by Navi Mumbai Police.

The facilitation centres offer washrooms and breastfeeding facilities to assist women travellers needing a break. "The travel route till Kharpada is managed by Navi Mumbai traffic officials," added DCP Kakde. Staff involved in this operation are from both the traffic department and Navi Mumbai headquarters.

This comprehensive plan aims to ensure that devotees travelling via Panvel experience minimal disruptions during Ganeshotsav celebrations.
