Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1: New Timetable Brings 10-Minute Peak Hour Services Starting From This Day
Starting January 20, metro services on Navi Mumbai's Metro Line 1 will run every 10 minutes during morning and evening peak hours, according to a City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) official. This adjustment aims to cater to the growing passenger demand and improve commuting convenience.
Metro Line 1, which connects CBD Belapur to Pendhar, began operations on November 17, 2023. The route serves several key locations, including the Central Business District (CBD) Belapur, the Taloja Industrial area, and CIDCO's housing complexes.
According to the CIDCO official, the metro has received an excellent response from passengers. "To accommodate the demand and ease travel during peak hours, a revised timetable will be introduced starting January 20," the official told Hindustan Times.
Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1: Revised Timetable
Under the new schedule:
Metro services will commence at 6:00 AM from both Belapur and Pendhar stations.
The last train will depart from Belapur at 10:00 PM and Pendhar at 9:45 PM.
During peak hours, trains will operate every 10 minutes.
Peak hours in Belapur: 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM and 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Peak hours in Pendhar: 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
During non-peak hours, services will run every 15 minutes.
This improvement is expected to significantly enhance commuting options for residents, particularly for those travelling to and from work or industrial zones.
About Navi Mumbai's Metro Line 1
Navi Mumbai's Metro Line 1 is a significant addition to the city's public transport system, aiming to enhance connectivity and reduce travel times for residents. The line is being developed in three phases, with a total length of 23.4 kilometres and 20 stations upon full completion.
Phase I: This phase covers an 11.1-kilometre stretch from Belapur to Pendhar, featuring 11 elevated stations. Construction began in October 2011, and after overcoming several delays, this section commenced operations on 17 November 2023.
Phase II: The second phase plans to extend the line by 10.3 kilometres from MIDC Taloja to Khandeshwar, adding eight stations. This extension aims to further improve access to industrial and residential areas.
Phase III: The final phase involves a 2.2-kilometre link between Pendhar and MIDC Taloja, with one additional station, creating a loop from Belapur to Khandeshwar.
The metro system is owned by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and operated by Maha Metro. The trains are designed to run at a speed of 32 km/h, providing a reliable and efficient mode of transport for daily commuters.
The introduction of Metro Line 1 is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion and promote sustainable urban development in Navi Mumbai.
