Navi Mumbai International Airport Status: Domestic Flights To Begin Next Month; Here’s What Else To Expect

The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will begin domestic flight operations next month, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced on Monday, according to a Times Now report. He stated that 85 per cent of the airport's construction has been completed, and trial runs have already taken place.

The upcoming airport will feature a dedicated VVIP terminal designed for high-profile passengers, including film stars, billionaire businesspersons, government officials such as governors and chief ministers, and defence personnel. This terminal aims to provide privacy and high-end facilities for exclusive travellers.

Metro Connectivity And Operations

Pawar also revealed that Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will be linked to NMIA by eight metro lines. This will ensure seamless travel between the two airports, improving connectivity for passengers.

The airport is being developed as a joint project between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO). The collaboration aims to establish NMIA as a major aviation hub in the region.

VVIP Terminal Access Under Review

While discussions about the exclusive terminal are ongoing, authorities are working on setting eligibility criteria for its access. According to a Times of India report, officials are finalising the guidelines to determine who will be permitted to use this facility.

Sources indicate that the families of the airport's promoters may also be granted access to the VVIP terminal. The initiative highlights NMIA's goal of catering to elite travellers and ensuring a high level of exclusivity.

Officials noted that dedicated VVIP terminals are becoming more common at international airports, reflecting a global trend of prioritising privacy and premium services for high-profile passengers.
