Mumbai's Metro 7 Upgrade: 14 Pedestrian Bridges Coming Soon – Here's the Full Scoop
To make the journey of passengers more comfortable and safe, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to construct 14 pedestrian bridges along the Metro 7 route, according to Lokmat. This initiative aims to ensure easy and safe access to metro stations for commuters.
Enhancing Passenger Safety

The 'Gundvali to Dahisar Metro 7 route' runs parallel to the Western Expressway, which experiences constant traffic. As a result, passengers often face difficulties crossing the busy road to reach metro stations. To address this issue, MMRDA is constructing 14 pedestrian bridges, significantly enhancing the comfort and safety of passengers.
Akurli Metro Station Pedestrian Bridge
Among these planned bridges, the pedestrian bridge at Akurli Metro station is a priority, with construction set to begin in the coming months. This bridge will connect the western expressway to the north and south sections of the Metro 7 line, ensuring easy access to the Akurli station.
Key Features Of Akurli Pedestrian Bridge
1. Length: The bridge will span approximately 300 meters.
2.Cost: The project is estimated to cost Rs. 40 crore 59 lakh.
3. Accessibility: An elevator will be installed to accommodate disabled individuals and senior citizens.
4. Security: The bridge will be monitored by 15 CCTV cameras to ensure passenger safety.
Timeline And Budget
The construction of the Akurli pedestrian bridge is expected to commence within two to three months. The project is slated to be completed within 18 months, providing a safe and convenient passage for commuters by the end of this period.
MMRDA's initiative to build these pedestrian bridges underscores their commitment to improving the infrastructure and ensuring a safer, more comfortable journey for all metro passengers.
