Mumbai Lakes Water Level
As of Sunday morning, the water levels in Mumbai's seven key reservoirs have reached 98.74 per cent of their total capacity, according to a report by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The BMC has provided data showing that the combined water stock in Mumbai's lakes stands at 14,29,101 million litres. This is equivalent to 98.74 per cent of the reservoirs' total capacity.
Mumbai relies on water from several reservoirs including Tulsi, Tansa, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna, and Middle Vaitarna.
According to the latest data from the civic body, the water level in Tansa Reservoir is currently at 98.37 per cent. Modak Sagar is at full capacity with 100 per cent of its water stock available.
Middle Vaitarna is at 99.06 per cent, Upper Vaitarna is at 98.51 per cent, Bhatsa is also at 98.51 per cent, while Vihar and Tulsi Reservoirs are both at 100 per cent of their useful water levels.
Following the recent heavy rains, several reservoirs have started overflowing. Middle Vaitarna Lake began to overflow on July 4. Vihar and Modak Sagar Lakes also started to flood on July 25. On July 24, Tansa Lake overflowed, leading to an increase in the water stored in all seven reservoirs by 17 days' worth of supply in just one day.
Tansa Lake, located in the Shahpur region of Thane, supplies approximately 400 million gallons of water to Mumbai. It overflowed on July 26.
Tulsi Lake, one of the two lakes that directly supply water to the BMC, began overflowing on July 20 at around 8:30 AM. This event was similar to the overflow that occurred on the same day the previous year at 1:28 PM, as reported by the civic body.
