Mumbai: Watchman Tries To Rape Top Executive Of Corporate Firm, Arrested

The Malwani police arrested a 28-year-old watchman, Prakash Kumar Manjhi, from Bihar on Thursday for allegedly attempting to rape and attacking a woman with a knife in Madh Island, reported Hindustan Times.

The victim, a top executive with a brand management company, suffered injuries to her neck and stomach and was admitted to a private hospital after the incident.

According to Chimaji Adhav, senior police inspector of Malwani police station, the incident occurred on Monday when Manjhi called the victim, who lived in the adjacent bungalow, claiming that her cats had entered his bungalow and were causing a mess.

When the woman went to retrieve her cats, Manjhi grabbed her, forced himself on her, and threatened to kill her. He took her to a room inside the bungalow, attempted to rape her, and attacked her with a knife when she resisted.

Adhav said, "When the woman screamed, Manjhi locked her in a room where film and TV set material had been stored and fled." The woman managed to contact a friend who rushed her to the hospital. Police registered a case of attempted murder, molestation, wrongful confinement, and attempt to rape.

The police formed three teams to track Manjhi, eventually tracing him to Bihar and arresting him on Thursday.

"Manjhi was produced before a magistrate court where he was remanded to police custody till July 22," added Adhav.
