Mumbai Viral Video: Nahur Station Clerk’s Dismissal Of Marathi Stuns Passengers | Watch

A video lasting one minute and 40 seconds has gone viral on social media, showing a booking clerk at Central Railway's Nahur station allegedly refusing to communicate in Marathi. The video, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter on November 25 at 6:49 PM, quickly gained attention, amassing over 56,700 views by Tuesday.

In the footage, a Marathi-speaking commuter asks the booking clerk for a ticket in Marathi. However, the clerk responds with, "I don't know Marathi," a reply that has triggered outrage among Marathi speakers. Many locals see this as a blatant disregard for the regional language, which is widely spoken in the area. The video was recorded by another commuter who found the clerk's response unacceptable, and it quickly spread across social media platforms.

The incident has drawn attention to concerns over the use of Marathi in public services. In response to the viral video, railway authorities have taken action. The clerk involved has been reprimanded and instructed to communicate in Marathi when dealing with local passengers. A senior railway official confirmed, saying, "The staff member has been sensitized and guided to use Marathi, the local language, in interactions with commuters."

The incident has caused widespread dissatisfaction, especially among groups like the 'Marathi Manush,' who are passionate about preserving the Marathi language and culture, particularly in public services. Many feel that such incidents highlight a need for greater linguistic sensitivity in day-to-day interactions.

The video, shared by Shubhash Shelke on November 25, has sparked a conversation about the importance of respecting local languages. In the aftermath, several Marathi-speaking social media users have called for stricter measures to ensure that railway staff are proficient in Marathi and sensitive to the language preferences of commuters.
