Mumbai Transport Services Update: Single Card For Metro, Trains, Buses, And Taxis Announced

The Maharashtra government is set to introduce a single mobility platform aimed at providing seamless access to multiple public transport services in Mumbai using just one card or mobile app, according to the Times Now report. This initiative will cover metro trains, local trains, buses, and even taxi services, making it easier for passengers to hop across transport modes.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the ambitious plan, which aims to ensure faster and more convenient connectivity across Mumbai, particularly for distant areas. Highlighting the project's vision, Fadnavis said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on bringing this transformative change to Mumbai's public transport system. Efforts are being made to develop the necessary infrastructure."

During a joint meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the chief minister shared details of the proposed system, which would allow passengers access to transport services within just 300 to 500 metres of walking distance. "Local trains are Mumbai's lifeline. The integrated service system will not only enhance passenger convenience but also boost revenue and maximise the utilisation of public services," he added.

Time-Saving And Hurdle-Free Travel

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised the project, stating that it would save passengers time by eliminating transportation hurdles. Currently, 3,500 local train services operate daily in Mumbai. To improve services further, the Railways plans to add 300 more services soon, with an investment of Rs 17,107 crore. In total, Rs 1.70 lakh crore has been allocated for railway projects across Maharashtra.

Both the central and state governments are committed to Mumbai's holistic development. The single ticketing system, developed under the leadership of MITRA (Maharashtra Institution for Transformation), will simplify the ticketing process. The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform will provide technical support for this initiative.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said the system's technology-driven approach will allow passengers to access the metro, local trains, buses, and taxis using a single card or app. "This has the potential to revolutionise urban transport, offering fast, seamless, and cost-effective services to passengers," he stated.

The integrated mobility platform is expected to transform how Mumbaikars travel, ensuring a smoother, more efficient public transport experience across the city.
