Mumbai Traffic New Rule: No Heavy Vehicles At Dahisar Toll During Peak Hours; Check Timings Inside

To reduce rising traffic congestion, the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar (MBVV) traffic police have banned heavy vehicles from entering Mumbai via the Dahisar toll plaza during morning peak hours, according to a Hindustan Times (HT) report. The restriction, implemented on Tuesday, applies to trucks, trailers, multi-axle vehicles, and all inter-state and inter-district private buses carrying passengers. The ban will be in force from 8:00 am to 11:30 am and will impact vehicles approaching Mumbai from the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway and Thane.

The move follows a similar restriction imposed by the Mumbai traffic police in June 2022, which barred heavy vehicles from operating in the city during morning and evening peak hours. However, enforcing the ban proved difficult, as vehicles originating outside Mumbai had already entered city limits. To address this issue, the Mumbai traffic police requested the MBVV traffic police to completely stop south-bound heavy vehicles at the Dahisar toll plaza. Officials believe this method will be more effective in controlling traffic flow.

Mumbai Traffic New Rule

According to the HT report, last week, state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik instructed transport authorities to introduce separate lanes for heavy vehicles and four-wheelers at the Dahisar toll plaza. His direction came after his convoy was delayed by 10-15 minutes due to long queues at the toll naka.

The MBVV traffic police confirmed that severe congestion at the Dahisar toll plaza often leads to gridlock on the Western Express Highway. While the toll is mainly for heavy vehicles, four-wheelers also face delays since both share the same lanes.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), MBVV, Suhas Bavche, stated that the situation disrupts smaller vehicles, emergency services, ambulances, and VIP convoys, potentially creating law and order issues. The ban has been formally notified under Section 33 (1) (b) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, and the Motor Vehicles Act.
