Mumbai To JNP: Electric Ferries Service Promises To Cut Travel Time By 20 Minutes; Details Inside
The city is gearing up to introduce electric ferry boat services connecting Mumbai with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) starting January 2025. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) announced the launch on Thursday, highlighting that the new service will reduce travel time between Mumbai and JNP by 20 minutes, according to a Times Now report.
This initiative aims to provide a zero-emission, eco-friendly transportation option in line with the 'Harit Sagar' or 'Green Port' initiative.

Features Of The Electric Ferries
The ferries are designed to prioritise passenger comfort and sustainability. According to JNPA, the 12-metre-long boats are made from fibre-reinforced polymer material and will feature air-conditioned seating to enhance the travel experience. With a maximum speed of 12 knots, each ferry can accommodate between 20 and 24 passengers comfortably.
Ticket Booking For The Electric Ferries
The ticketing process will be simple and convenient, with online booking and check-in options available. Tickets for the ferry rides will be issued by the JNPA. The services will operate between the Gateway of India and JNP, with an additional route from Bhaucha Dakka to JNP during the foul season.
Towards A Sustainable Future
The electric ferry boat service represents a significant step towards sustainable and efficient transportation. It promises to offer faster, more eco-friendly, and comfortable travel for passengers commuting to and from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
This initiative underscores JNPA's commitment to reducing environmental impact while improving connectivity and passenger convenience.
