Mumbai Teen Poisoned By Ex-Partner After Same-Sex Breakup, 19-Year-Old Arrested

A tragic murder in Mumbai has drawn attention to the risks faced by LGBTQ+ youth, after a same-sex relationship between two teenagers ended with the death of a minor boy. Police have arrested a 19-year-old for allegedly killing his 16-year-old former partner by poisoning a cold drink. Investigators believe the incident was triggered after the minor ended their relationship under pressure from his family.

The incident took place on June 29, when the 16-year-old told his family he was going for a walk but never returned. His parents searched for him through the night. The next day, a friend informed the family that the boy had been seen at the accused's house. When they arrived, they found him unconscious on the bed with the 19-year-old present. A doctor called to the scene pronounced the teen dead.

Police say the accused had mixed poison into a cold drink and gave it to the victim, who began vomiting shortly after consumption and died soon afterward. The motive appears to be revenge, as the accused was reportedly unable to accept the breakup. The victim's family had earlier forced him to end contact with the accused.

Following a complaint from the victim's father, police arrested the accused and registered a case. Forensic reports are awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
