Mumbai Slum Fire Claims 1 Life; 24 Fire Tenders Rush To Scene | Watch Video
In the densely populated slum area of Maharashtra's Thane district neighbouring Mumbai, a major fire erupted in the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in one fatality and injuries to several individuals.
The fire, which broke out around 4.30 am in the Azad Nagar area of Bhayandat East, quickly spread through the narrow alleys, engulfing numerous huts and shops, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The fire was reported to have started from waste that had been dumped nearby, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Prakash Gaikwad. Gaikwad informed ANI, "One person has died, 2 Mahanagar Palika Fire Brigade personnel and other 2-3 people have suffered injuries."
Mira Road Fire Brigade deployed a total of 24 fire tenders to combat the flames ravaging through the slum. Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) Commissioner Sanjay Katkar, overseeing rescue and relief efforts at the site, stated, "The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation is trying its all to control the fire. Total 24 fire brigade teams are at the spot. I hope the fire will be brought under control in the next one hour."
Multiple X users shared videos of the fire in the Mumbai slum.
Katkar noted that occupants of huts and other residents of the locality evacuated their homes once the blaze erupted. He also mentioned the presence of many commercial establishments in the slum colony. The cause of the fire in Azad Nagar remains unknown at this time, as reported by Hindustan Times.
In a separate incident on Monday, a 19-year-old woman suffered from suffocation due to smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a two-storey commercial centre in Mumbai's Santacruz suburb. A total of 37 people were rescued from the commercial centre near the busy Milan subway. The woman was rushed to nearby Cooper Hospital, where she discharged herself against medical advice.
